It is true Mel Hall was a sensation, but you had to go a long way to catch up with Phil Bonta Jr. He did it all on the unicycle.

Ivan – wanted to thank you for the very nice comment, if you are referring to Phil Bonta, Jr, better known as Don Philips. Since Don can’t make this comment himself, I wanted to say that Don always said that Mel Hall was the epitome of unicyclists. Don said the only one who ever came close to duplicating Mel’s act was Charley VanBusquirk.
One winter Mel spent some time at our home in Gibsonton. Between the senses of comedy and humor that he and Don had, we had a ton of fun! I valued his presence then because I was breaking the wolf act and I oigen went to him for advice in training, or trying to get a certain behavior. His comments often made me realize how little I knew, but he was always kind and gentleman-like, and I valued the lesson.
