Jack Roping Six

roping-six

This is what I remember as a kid. Jack Wright roping six galloping horses. I never saw this trick done before and to this day have never seen anyone but Jack Wright accomplish this trick. He would start the act with a 3 horse rope, on to a 4, 5 and then a 6 horse rope. For his finish, if he felt good, he would run and tumble head over heels and rope six horses at a full gallop…..the man was incredible. Over Jacks shoulder can be seen the bobtail truck that carried stakes and stake driver on the back. This photo was taken in 1946 in southern CA. This is a Harry Quillen Photo

Every cowboy needs a little time out from the rodeo. Jack and Edith are shown here taking a little time out to enjoy his ranch. Thanks again to Bob and Bill Wright, the grand nephews of Jack Wright, for sending me the pictures of the 101 in 1926 and the 101 in the mid 1940’s. One of the Wright brothers was on the internet browsing and found their uncle’s name on the circus blog under the 101 category. The pictures there are my family photos of the 101 Wild West Show.  Thanks again.

On the back of this picture it says Col Joe Miller who was one of the brothers that owned the 101 in 1926.  However it could be Jack Wright purposing to Edith because if you look in the top left corner of the photo it says Jack Wright , Marland, Okla. I do know the photo was taken on the 101 in 1926.

Five Horse Catch

big-loop-ropes-5Jack ‘s five horse rope. This photo was taken in 1946 on the 101.  To my surprise, our family house trailer is in this photo and to the left just under Jack’s arm are two people sitting under the window. There is another picture  similar to this one but Jack is roping six horses. Jack would do a routine roping one to five. As a finale he would rope six.

The Texas Skip

198198Here Jack is demonstrating the Texas skip in 1924 before he was with the 101 in 1926. If you look closely you can make out the rope coming toward him to jump though. This is like jumping robe ….cowboy style.

Big Loop Jack Wright seen in this picture starting his rope in front of the  three horses at a full galup. In this photo he is about two seconds away from having all three in his loop.   He could rope up to eight  horses if you bet him money that he couldn’t do it. This was an exihibition show in the early 1930’s.

Pictured here are a  few visitors between shows wanting to have a picture  with Jack. Jack threw a loop around them and some one took the shot….I am sure it made their day….and Jack’s.

Does anyone  know the names of these two people? They were on the 101 Show.  The girl does looks similar to the person sitting on the running board of a car in the 1926 photo with Jack Wright.

Catching Horse and Rider

This picture of Jack was taken at the Rodeo in East Prairie, Mo in 1934.  His loop would  actually go over the horses head and the rider as well. He would start his roping loop with what is called a” butterfly” and continue feeding rope into the loop until he could rope the horse and rider. The timing of this trick was critical.
