Photo taken in Marion, Indiana in 1923. On top of the elephant is John Robinson. On the far left is “Cheerful” Gardener, Superintendent of Elephants. The next person’s name is unknown to me. This is what I call papering! Thanks Dan for the great photo. I am quiet sure the circus blogers will enjoy it. I am guessing the photo was taken in the mid 1930′s. It reads on the posters the town they are playing,,,, Lynchburg.

It is said that since 1915 there has not been a season without a Hanneford appearing in one or in part of a leading American circus including their own shows. “Poodles Hanneford” is the third from the left, His mother is standing to his left.

Mlle Auora and her Polar Bears seen here in this rare photo of 1898. She also performed with the Bostock Wild Animal Circus. Later a simlar act was presented by Ursula Bottcher on the 106th edition of Ringling Bros and Barnun Circus. Hopefully, I will soon have a photo of Ursula. Thannk you Adaline [...]

I personally never knew the Cristianis to have an after show, but as you see in this ad, they must have added a congress of Cowboys and Indians to compete with other circuses. Note the other great names. In the late 1950′s our family went to visit the Christianis when they played El Monte, CA.
