Clyde Beatty

| November 9, 2017

There is no question that Beatty set the bar higher with a fighting big cat acts. Proof is, many copied his style of act even down to his wardrobe. That I think is a complement to him. It is also true that many were just as good as Beatty, its just that he was first in line for the glory.

I believe there are three other movies that Beatty starred in. These episodes       were call cliff hangers. Just when it got exciting it ended and in graphics would say  see the next episode

The Movie Lost Jungle

In Clyde Beatty’s career another aspect of show business took over, the movie business.Being a circus performer was put in second place, not that it ended, it’s just that the motion picture studio kept him busy. If you saw any of his movies you would have to admit that Clyde did a pretty good job as an actor.

Beatty raised his own Tigers and Lions. He bred stock at his compound so he never was in need for great looking animals that he broke into his act. It is obvious  in this photo that Clyde was proud of his cats.  Clyde Beatty was not the only one that bred their own cats however.

Howes Great London Circus 1921

| September 8, 2017

Clyde Beatty seen here with his hand upon the head of an Hippopotamus. I believe at that time he worked as a animal handier. I wonder if he ever thought that he would become a great animal trainer and own one of the largest circuses in America.

Note the lash that hangs from BEATTY’S shoulder. The above photo is an exact replica of his. This lash was made by Roger Smith, a trainer for many years Roger got his start with Lions at the Jungle compound Thousand Oaks, Calif, from there he went on the road with his own act. Roger sent me this lash, that now proudly […]
