You don’t have to look hard to see a mixed group of wild and domestic animals within this photo. Tigers, lions, Tibet and Sloth Bears and Siberian Boar Hounds  as well one Hyena were all presented. Herman Weedon was also Jack Bstock’s chief animal trainer With out a doubt a most amazing act and trainer.

Linda thank you for your comment concerning your grandfather Herman Weedom.

    Hi Ivan,

Thank you for posting this picture of my grandfather, Herman Weedon, performing his most famous act, and for the kind words about him. We think he was pretty amazing, too.

Herman worked with Frank Bostock for years; is Jack a nickname for Frank?

    Thanks,
    Linda

  2. Dear Ivan: My name is Kevin Franklin and I am the municipal historian for the Town of Colonie & Village of Menands (Village within Colonie). In the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, the Village of Menands (located north of Albany on the Hudson River) was host to a variety of amusement parks along the river. One of the more famous parks was called the Al-Tro Park (Albany-Troy Park), a large venue and host to tens of thousands of people from the nearby cities of Albany, Troy, Watervliet and Rensselaer. I have several good photos of the park (which is no longer there) and the few newspaper clippings I’ve found mention some of the acts that came to the park including “Weeden’s Great Lion Act” The Village of Menands was incorporated in August, 1924, and will be celebrating it’s 100th Anniversary in 2024. The Village and myself (hopefully) will be gearing up soon to prepare for this Centennial Celebration and a book is in order for that event. I was wondering if you have any photos, etc., at all pertaining to Weeden’s show at the Al-Tro Park (Albany). i have photos of the park I would be willing to share with you should you desire to put them on your blog page. I may be reached at the above email address or by telephone at 518-782-2601. Thanks Much! Kevin Franklin.
