Hi Ivan. My name is Cheryl Hanson. I live in Mobile, Al. I grew up in Indianapolis, IN. I am doing some genealogy research on my father and his side of the family. I remember going to see my Uncle (his half brother) named Dennis Stephens or Stevens, a clown all the time when I was little and he was in town with the circus.. I have seen it spelled both ways. I left Indy when I was 22 and eventually made it down to Tampa, FL. I found out that Dennis had retired there in Sarasota as many circus people did. I drove over and saw him about a year before he died. There was not much he could tell me about my father as Dennis was always traveling.

The next year someone wrote me and let me know of his death as I guess when they cleaned his place out they found my address.

I am seeking any information that you might have or can advise me where to go and look up things. Unfortunately everyone on both sides of my family are all dead except my older brothers and me so I am having to do it the hard way. I am grateful that the Internet has evolved to what it is today and some people have assisted me in my research.

I did find one picture of him on ClownAlley.net Another site said a little about him and said he worked with Polack Bros Circus in 1945 till 53, then Tom Pack circus which I never heard of in the late 1960’s, Clyde Beatty-Cole brothers from 71-77. He died in Sarasota in 1986 at age 72.

I know you have a lot of inquiries and will appreciate anything that you can do for me.

    Thanking you in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Cheryl LaGrave Hanson
