Head Balancing Chimp #2

Posted By on January 23, 2012

I hate to admit it but I never saw this act and for that matter I don’t know the name of the act. I can tell you this, this chimp is unbelievable. In this photo ….while in his balance he is drinking from a glass. The photo was shot sometime in the early 1950’s.  I will add this little guy to my memory of of great chimps from other acts…………… I am sure someone will make a comment on the name.

Thank you Billie Lou Henderson for your comment. I must say much needed and informative. Now we have the names. Thanks again…….IVAN

  1. Billie Schuller says:

Lew Henderson’s chimp, Marko. Lew Henderson of The Henderson Comedy Co… (1917-1924) Lew Henderson Players (1925-1940) and Henderson Trio of jugglers and balancers (1941-1949) got himself a chimp when the last of family went their own ways. The chimp repeated Dad’s head balancing routine, walked my wire and passed hoops with Dad. He worked the chimps, actually there were three chimps over the years, until he died in 1966 at age 75. Mother, Alice, and brother Rich, kept the act out for a couple more years. All three chimps were accepted by reputable zoos. I still have the rigging in my garage.
By the way – my sister and husband , Peggy & Mack MacDonald, are represented on this site. I’ll be presenting a “nostalgia specialty” in April at the Repertoire Museum in Iowa.
    Great site,
