Pictures was taken at Jungleland. At the time the “expert”s said it takes years to accomplish this trick. But, no one told Ada. What a class lady!

This was taken at Jungleland. At the time the” experts” said it takes a year to train a wire walking cat. Ada & Cheryl Shawver both proved them wrong.

What the experts were talking about was proper and patient conditioning of the animal. The time spoken of is to allow the animal time to “muscle up” for any trick. In the case of wire-walking, yes, you can rush an animal onto the cables–if you choose to ignore the need to toughen their feet and the webs between their toes. Cutting training time does not illustrate the superior trainer, and does in fact emphasize ignorance or indifference toward the best preparation of the animal. As it happened, Mabel Stark, undeniably an expert, who had wire cats for decades, never claimed a year was needed. She wanted 4 months for conditioning before presentation. Trainers who claim speed skills over their peers are serving nothing more than their own egos, which some outside observers fall for.
