Sells Floto Circus

Posted By on July 19, 2012

This is a full carved double den open cage wagon. Photo shot by J.W. Beggs in 1910, Kansas City, Mo. Mr Beggs lived in Kansas City, Mo. I am fortunate to own these few original photos that he shot in 1910.

  1. What a terriffic picture. My grandfather who was from Meriden (New Haven) CT came to Oklahoma with a circus July 4, 1921. He met and married my Grandmother there. I learned from the Okmulgee, OK public librarian that there was a railroad strike and the circus could not unload from the train. It was an election year, so several politicians were also sheduled to speak at the 4th of July picnic near the circus grounds. The circus traveled with either the Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Show or the Tom Mix Wild West Show. Is there any way to ascertain whether this show arrived in Beggs, Oklahoma on July 4, 1921? Or find out the name of the circus that arrived on (or near) that date? I spoke with Bill Brindley of the Circus Hall of Fame and he thought my grandfather might have been a Front Man who handles permits, taxes on the gaming car, etc…The Okmulgee Times has no records going back that far due to a fire.

    Thanks, Sherri Voebel
