I only recognize two people in this picture. Louis Roth seated in the chair and on the far left Bert Nelson. Photo taken in the 1920’s.

My paternal grandparents were in the Al G. Barnes Circus in the 1920’s and they are in this photo. The last two people on the right standing are Grace and Charles Miller. Grandpa played an Indian chief and Grandma rode horses bareback from what they told me when they were living. This is the first photo of the Al G. Barnes circus that I’ve seen them pictured in… and I’ve been looking for a while. Thank you so much for this fabulous blog.

  2. My Uncle Earl D. Mileham traveled with the Al G. Barnes Circus. I have several pictures of him with the circus. My Mother and Grandmother, Edna and Edna Belle Mileham got to ride on the circus train on one trip to Canada. My mother was so excited. She said that she particularly remember the crowds at the stations when the trains arrived. On one trip she sat across from a lady performer who worked with oceltos and had them laying on her shoulders. I would love hearing more about the Circus. My uncle left the circus in El Paso, I believe as he and his wife had contracted tuberculosis, “the White Death.” He was with the circus from 1913 to around 1916.

Does anyone have an old Al G. Barnes program from the 1920’s? I know they printed them as I saw one before that had my grandfather, Charles “Kaipo” MIller in it as an Indian and part of the Hawaiian Show and my grandmother, Grace Kelly as an equestrian and pianist. If so, please contact me by email:LKalama1@aol.com

    Thanks for this wonderful blog!
